            Question types and use cases

Assessment forms support five different question types, each suited to a specific style of response. Some are ideal for quick selections, while others allow for more detailed input or ranked responses.

Not all question types are compatible with every form.  Use the table below to understand the purpose and features of each question type.

            FAQs

Can I use all question types in any assessment form?

No. Available question types depend on the form type you’re building. For example, Scored and Pre-Assessment (Killer Question) forms only support compatible question types like Choice and Order of Importance.

Why can’t I see a certain question type when building my form?

The system automatically limits the available question types based on the form type you’ve selected, to prevent incompatible options.

Which question types can be scored?

Only Choice and Order of Importance questions support scoring.

Can I use Text or Rating questions in scored or killer question forms?

No. Text, Rating, and Matrix questions cannot be scored and are not supported in Pre-Assessment (Killer Questions) or Scored Assessment Forms.

Can I attach media to questions?

Yes, but only in Candidate Assessment Forms (Scored and Non-Scored). All question types in these forms support adding reference images or videos. Media attachments are not supported in Pre-Assessment Forms, Screening Forms, or Shortlisting Forms.

Can candidates select multiple answers in a Choice question?

Yes. Choice questions support single or multiple answers and can be displayed as a dropdown if required.

When should I use Matrix Table questions?

Use Matrix questions to group related items that share the same set of answer options - ideal for collecting structured responses in a compact format.

Can I set a word limit on text questions?

Yes. You can set a custom word limit for each text question. If no limit is set, all text-based assessment questions will default to a maximum of 1,000 words.

How do Rating questions work and are there any limits?

Rating questions allow you to create a 1–5 or 1–10 scale, using stars or numbers.
Labels are optional and can be shown at either end of the scale (enabled by default). If used, each label is limited to 20 characters.
